‘Cryobiology’ Method In IVF Treatment
Cryobiology, which is the process of freezing biological materials with the help of special chemicals, stands out as one of the most important developments in IVF treatment.
Centrum Clinic Women Health and IVF Center, Gynecology and Obstetrics Specialist Assoc. Dr. Emre Pabuçcu said that cryotechnology opened a new field in IVF. Pabuççu pointed out that approximately half of the IVF treatments are done with this method, and he emphasized the importance of using this technology only in appropriate cases and taking into account the risks.
“It isn’t right to recommend for everyone at this moment. However, in some cases, we have to freeze the embryos compulsorily in IVF treatment. He listed conditions that frozen in vitro fertilization treatment can be recommended as follows;
- Cases with large numbers of eggs or more than 20 eggs (to avoid ovarian overgrowth)
- Conditions that require the postponement of embryo transfer (such as problems involving the uterus or other organs and preventing the transfer, such as intrauterine polyp formation.)
- Egg freezing for social purposes (advanced age and low ovarian reserve status)
- Freezing eggs, sperm or embryo before cancer treatment.
