Istanbul Technical University Developed “Layered Biodegradable Artificial Vein Design”

Istanbul Technical University Faculty Member Doctor İpek Yalçın Eniş, has succeeded in developing “layered biodegradable artificial vein design” that is targeted for cardiovascular diseases.

Turkish scientists have been able to design layered biodegradable artificial veins that look like real veins. Within the scope of doctoral thesis conducted under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Telem Gök Sadıkoğlu, Faculty Member at Textile Engineering Department in İstanbul Technical University Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design, Dr. İpek Yalçın Eniş, Faculty Member succeeded in producing a layered biodegradable vessel that imitates the real vein structure. Thanks to the artificial vein, it could be a remedy for the patients who need to change vessels by a bypass.
