Therapies Developed When Women Postpone Pregnancy

Doç. Dr. Orhan Bükülmez who attended “Current Approaches In IVF” Symposium in Liv Hospital and studies in IVF treatment and Reproductive Endocrinology in Dallas, Southwestern Medical Center said “Since the first test tube baby in 1978 more than 5 million test tube babies have come to the world and almost half of this number has been in the last 6-7 years. Especially after the 2010 test-tube baby, pregnancy and live birth have increased globally. One of the reasons for this is the growing number of in vitro clinics.”

He said that the indications for IVF have changed over the years and continued “In the past, tubal factor was the majority, while microinjection technology and heavy male factor cases were included in this group. The method of genetic diagnosis by means of embryo biopsy has opened the way to prevent known single-gene diseases. Along with the changing world demographics, women began to participate equally with men in the business world. Many women postpone gestation. In OECD countries including in Turkey the age of first pregnancy gradually raise. As a result, the women turned to reproductive specialists. Many of the patients started to visit the reproductive clinics because of the low ovarian reserve or only the egg quality that has fallen with the older age, which is more common in advanced age, and the treatment protocols have changed over the years. New treatment methods have been developed in patients with advanced age or low ovarian reserve or premature ovarian failure.”
